Description

Composer's Note:

Sing a New Song, an anthem for chorus, organ and piano, inspired by Psalm 96, text adapted by Susan Wheatley from Verses 1,4,6,11-12, is a song that refers to the arrival of spring and the resonant beauty of nature and countryside. A strong inspirational reference in composing the anthem was a marble sculpture of Luca della Robbia, made for the organ loft of the cathedral in Florence, Italy. I have long wanted to depict the music singing and dancing to Psalms in “praise of the Lord” found in that magnificent work.
