Description

Composer's Note:

A circle can be a symbol of community or eternity or of cyclical time. I think of the circle of my friends, my wedding ring and the clock on my wall. Returning to its beginning material many times (circling) and often using retrograde as another expression of return, this work locates itself by the recorded echo of the performance. (“Echolocation” refers to the location of objects by reflected sounds, such as that used by animals such as dolphins and bats.)

Comments

Publisher's Note:

“Flutist must create a tape version prior to performance, and either the performer or an assistant, backstage or near the front (not ON the stage), should press play at measure 7, creating an "echo."
