Loretta Jankowski

Biography

Loretta Jankowski (b. 1950)  A native of New Jersey, Dr. Jankowski studied composition and theory in the prepatory division of the Juilliard School of Music in the early 1960's. She hold a Masters of Music in Composition from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Composition with minors in Theory and Music History from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Her extensive degree studies were supplemented by work at Dartington, England with Harrison Birtwistle and Morton Feldman, and three months in Cracow, Poland with Marek Stachowski.

Dr. Jankowski has taught on the faculties of Northern Illinois University/Dekalb, California State University/Long Beach, Ball State University/Muncie, Indiana, and East Carolina University/Greenville, North Carolina. From 1981-1983, she was Adjunct Professor of Composition at Kean College, resuming that post in 1986. In August, 1987, she was Composer-in-Residence at Bennington College/Vermont.
