Description

Composer's Note:

Journeys is the most substantial instrumental movement of my vocal-instrumental cycle, Ancient Scenes, and is situated as movement V within the overall plan of the work. It begins with a stately opening processional, giving way to a rambunctious allegro that relents only in its final moments. For a program note of the entire cycle, please see the entry for Ancient Scenes.

Review:

“This was the most purely contemporary piece of the evening. It’s challenging, yet attractive in the best modern sense.  There’s a real urgency and sense of forward motion to the instrumental movements, presented superbly, as usual, by this fine ensemble.

(Performance of Ancient Scenes, including Journeys, by the Da Capo Chamber Players.)
