Description

composer's note: Silver Prime Harmony is a meditation on the Pomona College magic number 47. The number’s many connections to Pomona can be found elsewhere, but the piece’s title comes from the facts that 47 is the atomic number of silver, 47 is the 15th prime number. Translations of 47 into music include a rhythm based on 47 in binary (101111), 4-note scales followed by 7-note scales, durations equal to four 16th notes followed by seven 16th notes, sustained 4th and 7th degrees of the scale, and a middle section built on the intervals of the 4th and the 7th.
